A Lobster in the Pot
Ahh, Summertime! Hot hazy days and a LOBSTER in the POT! That’s right, lobster! Lobster is often overlooked for it s many nutrients and health benefits. Here are some fascinating facts about New England’s favorite summer treat!
· 83 calories for 3 ounces
· 17 grams of protein for 3 ounces
· 1 gram of fat for 3 ounces
· Lower in cholesterol than a skinless chicken breast
· Rich in potassium, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, copper and Vitamin B 12
· Good source of healthful Omega 3s
Now that you know what a great addition lobster can be to your healthy table what should or should not be served with your lobster? Melted butter is a tradition but at 407 calories/quarter cup it is no calorie bargain! Instead cut that butter in half with lemon juice and consume only 203 calories and much less fat!
With your lobster dinner pick one of the following starches:
· 1 ear of corn on the cob for 120 calories
· ½ cup of homemade potato salad for 179 calories
· 1 medium baked potato for 220 calories
Add a green salad or veggie and dinner is complete!
A lobster roll makes for a nice luncheon. Instead of the traditional white roll for 123 calories substitute a wheat roll for the same calories but more vitamins and fiber. To make your lobster roll even healthier use low fat or fat free mayo.
